Surge

And now, as The Decider launches his last-ditch surge in Iraq, recalcitrant senators and congressmen are accusing the administration of not sending enough troops in the first place, four years ago, to achieve victory in Iraq, whatever that is supposed to mean. It's doubtful anyone knows. These politicians seem to be suffering short-term memory loss, because there was no enemy state poised to attack us in the first place. Ostensibly, the president declared war on Iraq because they were hiding weapons of mass destruction from us. So we invaded. No WMDs were found; Saddam jumped into a hole; and his "army" disintegrated. Now, four years later, we have 100,000 troops milling around in strange neighborhoods without any clue about whom they are actually supposed to be fighting. But they've just been authorized to kill Iranians in Iraq. What are they smoking over there at the White House? The president now keeps calling it the war on terror, but terrorists don't show up in uniform. And there are more terrorists now in Iraq than ever before. This may be the most inane, insane, inept, inexplicable, and inexcusable military operation in our history. Precious national resources, not to mention thousands of lives, have been squandered to achieve nothing but sheer chaos. And it's not as though we're all not aware of all this, is it?
